First light brings the unmistakable rooster crow. The cackle of the upset hen was nothing compared to the fear of her meanness to a youngster gathering eggs. Finding eggs in hidden places was its own reward.
The Roost features a headboard of antique doilies and a free flowing canopy. Egg pails, chicken crates, and chicken wall hangings complete the room.
Barn cats patiently waited as kittens frolicked around the one-leg milk stool for their portion of fresh, warm milk. Between a cow's flank and full udder, cold hands would warm instantly while "Bossie" enjoyed her supper. With the evening radio news in the background, there was a quiet confidence that all was right with the world.
A picket fence and a suspended white lattice creates a space for pleasant dreams, surrounded by bird houses and flowers. Stenciled walls of ivy vines and flowers bring the outdoor gardens inside for your enjoyment.
Similar to a church or ancient cathedral, upon entering the hayloft, one instinctively looks up. Nothing can compare to the smell of fresh hay, dust-shafts of sunlight, raindrops on the roof, or playing the floorboards as well as the backboard in a game of haymow basketball. Add a sack swing, straw bale tunnels and a fort, a few chores, and this is the favorite place in the barn. Hiding from the real work to be done or sneaking up on a sibling, the loft was a place where one could dream of youthful romantic interludes.
Sleep comes easily under the the barn rafters and cozy quilt. A sense of calm and security envelops the Loft. Unique art work and a spliced hay mow rope initiates many conversations of days gone by.
Bearing intimate relations to the land, "The barn often had a sort of peaceful smell - as though nothing bad could happen ever again in the world."-E.B. White, Charlotte's Web, 1952
